The Art of Waiting: Finding Rest in God’s Timing
As we navigate life’s twists and turns, we often find ourselves waiting for answers to our prayers and decisions that will shape our future. But how do we wait without succumbing to frustration and anxiety? For many of us, waiting can be a difficult and agonizing process, but it doesn’t have to be.
Learning to Trust
Waiting on God requires trust – trust in His ways, His plans, and His timing. When we add trust to our waiting, we discover endurance, peace, and confidence. We learn to rest in the knowledge that God is working everything out for our good. However, without this trust, waiting can become an unbearable burden, leading to worry, fretting, and hand-wringing.
A Position of Rest
So, how do we wait on God from a position of rest? It begins with learning to trust Him with everything and with all of our heart. As we draw closer to Him and listen for His direction, we develop the faith to walk patiently alongside Him. We come to understand that waiting is not a passive exercise, but an active choice to trust in God’s goodness.
Growing in Faith
As we wait on God, we experience growth in our faith, and our hearts are strengthened by the knowledge that what we’re waiting for is a perfect answer from Him. This makes our waiting worth it all. In Isaiah 40:31, we’re reminded that those who wait on the Lord will renew their strength, mounting up with wings like eagles, running without weariness, and walking without fainting.
A New Strength
When we find the place of rest that comes from waiting on God, we discover a new strength we didn’t know we had. Our faith grows, and we’re empowered to face challenges with courage and confidence. We learn to wait patiently, knowing that God’s timing is perfect and His plans are always for our good.
