Finding Hope in Suffering: A 7-Day Bible Reading Plan

Finding Hope in the Darkest Times

Suffering is an inevitable part of life. We all face it at some point, and it can be overwhelming. But as Christians, we know that God’s Word offers us hope and encouragement, even in the midst of pain.

A Biblical View of Suffering

The Bible doesn’t shy away from the reality of suffering. In fact, it’s full of stories of sorrow and tragedy, often caused by human sin. But it’s in these stories that we see the sovereignty of God at work. As John Piper and other contributors explore in their writings, God’s Word helps us form a biblical view of suffering, one that acknowledges the pain while pointing us to the hope of the gospel.

From Despair to Hope

In Romans 8, the apostle Paul writes that nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. These aren’t just abstract words; they’re written out of Paul’s own experience of suffering. Many of us can relate to his feelings of grief and perplexity. But as Mark Talbot notes, it’s in these dark times that God breaks us free from our idolatries and draws us closer to Himself.
