The Power of Praise: Unlocking a Deeper Connection with God

Worthy of Praise

God’s greatness is undeniable, and His worthiness of praise is evident in every aspect of our lives. As the psalmist so eloquently puts it, “Go through his open gates with great thanksgiving; enter his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and bless his name. For the Lord is always good. He is always loving and kind and his faithfulness goes on and on to each succeeding generation.” (Psalm 100:4,5)

Attributes of God

We praise God for who He is, and for His magnificent attributes – His unwavering love, sovereign power, infinite wisdom, unrelenting goodness, and compassionate heart. These characteristics are beautifully described in passages like Isaiah 40, Psalm 139, and Psalms 145-150. As we reflect on these attributes, our hearts are filled with gratitude and our spirits are lifted in praise.

Blessings Abound

Furthermore, we praise God for the countless blessings He bestows upon us. From the air we breathe to the salvation we’ve received, every good thing in our lives is a gift from God. Psalm 103 beautifully enumerates some of these blessings, and the psalmist’s response is one of joyful praise, declaring, “Let everything everywhere bless [praise] the Lord. And how I bless [praise] Him too.” (Psalm 103:1-8)

A Lifestyle of Praise

Praising God is not just a one-time event, but a continuous expression of our gratitude and devotion. As Dr. Bill Bright so aptly puts it, “Praise toward God throughout the day will be on my lips as I recall His many attributes and all His benefits to me.” By incorporating praise into our daily lives, we cultivate a deeper connection with God, and our lives are transformed by His presence.

Practical Applications

So, how can we practically apply the power of praise in our lives? We can start by setting aside time each day to reflect on God’s attributes and blessings. We can express our gratitude through prayer, song, or simply by speaking His praises aloud. As we do, we’ll find our hearts filled with joy, our spirits lifted, and our relationship with God deepened.
