Unlocking God’s Purpose: The Power of “So That” Statements

As Christians, we’re often encouraged to walk by faith, not by sight. While we may not have all the answers, God has revealed much of His plan and purpose through Scripture. One key to understanding His will is to look for the “so that” statements scattered throughout the Bible.

A Pattern of Purpose

In Romans 8:29, we read that God’s goal is to make us increasingly like Christ. But how does He plan to achieve this? By instructing us to “do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure.” This verse highlights the connection between our actions and our character. A contentious spirit can quickly lead to impure thoughts and actions, hindering our growth as Christians.

Finding Peace in Jesus’ Words

In John 6:33, Jesus explains that He has told us certain things “so that in me you may have peace.” When our peace is disrupted, we need to review the teachings of Jesus and find comfort in His words. This is especially important when facing challenges or uncertainties.

The Equipping Power of Scripture

2 Timothy 3:16 reminds us that all Scripture is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, “so that all God’s people may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” Whenever we feel inadequate or need course correction, we can turn to Scripture for guidance and training.

Approaching God’s Throne with Confidence

Hebrews 4:16 encourages us to approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, “so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” God’s mercy and grace are available to us, but we must come before Him boldly and confidently.

Uncovering More “So That” Statements

As we read the Bible, we can search for more “so that” phrases to gain a deeper understanding of God’s will and plan. By doing so, we’ll discover that God has made just enough of His plan known for us to live abundantly. As 1 Corinthians 2:12 states, “What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us.”

A Challenge to Grow

What would happen if we began to more deeply understand all the “so that” statements in the Bible? Our growth as Christians would likely accelerate, and we’d gain a clearer understanding of God’s purpose for our lives. Start making a list of these statements in your journal and see how God’s Word comes alive in new ways.
