A Life of Purpose: What the World is Missing
I recall a dinner conversation with a fascinating group of individuals from across North America. My husband and I had never met them before, but we quickly connected with a couple who shared our love for travel and adventure. As we shared stories, they mentioned that they weren’t religious, having noticed our pre-meal prayer. I explained that I wasn’t religious either, but I had a personal relationship with God. The husband revealed he was an atheist, prompting me to say, “You don’t know what you’re missing.”
This encounter left me pondering the incredible benefits of knowing God. What exactly were they missing out on?
Forgiveness and Peace
For starters, they were missing the forgiveness of sins and peace with the Eternal God (John 3:16). This assurance brings comfort and tranquility, allowing us to live life with confidence.
A Constant Companion
They were also missing someone to talk to 24/7 (1 Thessalonians 5:18). God is always available, listening, and responding in ways that are best for us. His presence is a constant source of comfort, guidance, and wisdom.
Unfailing Love
God’s unfailing love is another blessing they were missing (1 John 4:8). He never holds grudges, is never moody, and laughs with us in times of joy. His love is unwavering, and He comforts us in times of sorrow.
Transformation and Growth
Furthermore, they were missing the opportunity for transformation and growth (Galatians 5:22). God helps us become nicer people, refining our character and enabling us to live with purpose.
Wisdom and Confidence
They were also missing God’s wisdom (James 1:5) and the confidence that comes from knowing He is in control (Psalm 109:21). This trust allows us to navigate life’s challenges with faith and assurance.
A Life of Abundance
Lastly, they were missing the knowledge that God supplies everything we need (Philippians 4:19). He opens our eyes to the beauty around us, revealing the blessings that flood our lives (Psalm 23).
As I reflect on this encounter, I pray that God will open the eyes of those who don’t know Him. May they discover the multitude of blessings that come from having a personal relationship with Him.
