Rethinking Expectations: A New Perspective
Expectations are an integral part of the human experience. We all have them, whether we call them hopes, dreams, or visions for the future. They drive us to set goals and work towards a better tomorrow. But have you ever stopped to think about where you place your expectations?
The Power of Placement
In the Hebrew language, expectations are referred to as “the thing that I long for.” This phrase suggests a deep-seated desire that motivates us to keep moving forward. However, what if we were to take a step back and reevaluate where we place our expectations? Instead of relying solely on ourselves, what if we were to look beyond our own limitations?
A Higher Perspective
Imagine placing your expectations in a position higher than yourself, outside of your own abilities, and beyond your own understanding. What if you were to put your hopes, dreams, and goals in the hands of a God who sees the end from the beginning? A God who knows your thoughts before you think them, and your desires before they even become a longing.
The Upright Position
This is what David meant when he said, “My expectation is from HIM” (Psalm 62:5). By placing our expectations in the upright position, we open ourselves up to a new realm of possibilities. We begin to see that our journey is not just about the here and now, but about the hope that lies beyond our wildest expectations.
A New Way of Thinking
When we place our expectations in the upright position, we find ourselves within sight of our journey’s end. We become aware that there is more to life than what we can see and experience today. Our expectations become infused with a sense of hope and promise, knowing that there is a greater reality waiting for us just beyond the horizon.
Forward and Upward
So, take a moment to reflect on where you place your expectations. Are they rooted in your own abilities, or are they placed in the hands of a higher power? By choosing to place your expectations in the upright position, you can experience a newfound sense of hope and purpose. You can begin to see that your journey is not just about the present, but about the incredible possibilities that lie ahead.
