Surrounded by God’s Protection
In a world filled with uncertainty and danger, it’s comforting to know that we can look to our living God for protection. The Bible tells us that God surrounds His people with a protective cordon, keeping us safe from harm.
A Real-Life Example
Missionary John Paton’s mission house was once surrounded by hostile natives, but as he and his team prayed, the attack never materialized. It was later discovered that the attackers had seen a vast army of God’s protection surrounding the compound, making it futile to attack.
What Does God’s Protection Look Like?
The composer of Psalm 125 gives us a vivid picture of God’s protection, saying, “As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds His people both now and forevermore.” This is not just a figure of speech; it’s a reality that we can experience in our lives.
Surround Protection, Not Just Surround Sound
We often hear about “surround sound,” but this is “surround protection”! In 2 Kings 6:13-17, the Prophet Elisha was surrounded by a strong armed force, but he was unperturbed, knowing that God’s protection was greater. As the Lord opened the eyes of Elisha’s servant, he saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire surrounding them.
The Same God Today
God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He is still the God who surrounds His people with protection. The Apostle John tells us that “Greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world.” This means that no matter what satan or the world throws at us, God’s protection is greater.
Trust in God’s Protection
Let’s trust God to surround us with the protection we need for ourselves and our families. As the Psalmist says, “You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.” May we remain confident in God’s protection, knowing that no evil can surround us when we are surrounded by Him.
Prayer
Lord, may Your mighty protection surround us every day. Keep us confident in that trust! We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
