When You’re Stuck Between a Rock and a Hard Place
Have you ever felt like you’re facing an insurmountable obstacle, with no clear way forward or escape route? Perhaps your current circumstances have left you yearning for the comfort and familiarity of a bygone era, no matter how difficult it may have been?
The Israelites’ Dilemma
The Israelites found themselves in a similar predicament, longing for the relative security of their Egyptian captivity rather than facing the unknown challenges of the wilderness. But God intervened, instructing them to “stand still…see” (Exodus 14:13). In essence, He was saying, “I’ve got this. Just be still and watch what I will do.”
Silence and Trust
Oswald Chambers once posed a poignant question: “Dare I really let God be to me all that He says He will be?” (“My Utmost for His Highest”). The Israelites chose to trust God, standing still and silent as they awaited His intervention. And when they did, the impossible happened: the sea parted, the walls of Jericho crumbled, and they emerged victorious.
The Power of Rest
What does it mean to “rest” in God? It means ceasing to strive and struggle, instead trusting in His sovereignty and power. When we let our faith rest, we create space for God to work. We acknowledge that He is capable of doing what we cannot, and we wait in silence for His intervention.
God’s Promise
As Psalm 37:5,7 reminds us, “Trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass…Rest in the Lord.” God’s promise is clear: when we trust in Him, He will bring about the desired outcome. But we must be willing to rest, to cease striving and struggling, and simply trust.
A Call to Faith
So, when you find yourself facing an insurmountable obstacle, remember the Israelites’ story. Dare to let God be for you all that He says He will be. Trust in His promise, rest in His presence, and watch as He works wonders on your behalf. Every time.
