The Paradox of Humility
A profound principle is woven throughout the fabric of God’s Word, repeated time and again to ensure we grasp its significance. It’s a truth that has played out in the lives of countless missionaries who have surrendered their claims to honor, acclaim, and success in obedience to God’s call.
The Great Exchange
These individuals, who have given up all rights to recognition, have found themselves unexpectedly honored by God in numerous ways. Conversely, those who seek genuine acclaim are often thoroughly humbled along the way. This paradox is evident in every field of endeavor, and it’s a lesson that has been reinforced time and again in the work of Campus Crusade for Christ.
Unsung Heroes
Many young people have stepped into humble roles of service for their Master, only to find themselves honored with a measure of acclaim they never would have achieved otherwise. This is part of God’s plan to abase the proud and raise up the humble. Our focus should be on committed service for the Savior, letting Him take care of the honoring and humbling.
A New Perspective
Today, let’s recognize anew that the only good thing about us – and about any believer – is the reality of our relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ through the indwelling person of the Holy Spirit. As we walk in humility, we can trust that God will lift us up in His perfect timing. By embracing this paradox, we’ll find true honor and fulfillment in our service to Him.
Reflection
Take a moment to reflect on your own life and motivations. Are you seeking honor and recognition, or are you humbly serving the Lord? Remember, it’s in our humility that we find true strength and recognition from our heavenly Father.
