Embracing the Journey of Sanctification: A Lifelong Path to Spiritual Growth

The Power of Sanctification

Sanctification is a lifelong process for Christians, involving both relational and moral components. It occurs as we believe, think, and live according to God’s truth, which is embodied in His Word. Jesus Christ has fully earned our perfection, which will be applied to us in God’s good time.

The Initial Break with Sin

At regeneration, we experience a spiritual cleansing from sin’s guilt and power. This initial break with sin is symbolized in baptism, where we are buried with Christ and raised to new life. Our old self is crucified with Him, and we are no longer enslaved to sin.

Progressive Sanctification

Sanctification is not only an initial event but also an ongoing process in the Christian life. We are called to work out our salvation with fear and trembling, knowing that God works in us to will and act according to His good pleasure. As we obey God, we demonstrate our faith and nurture our relationship with Him.

The New Creation

In Christ, we are a new creation, living for Him by living for others. We are called to bear fruit, which is only possible as we abide in Him. God prunes us to produce more fruit, and He removes unfruitful branches from His vine.

Renewal of the Mind

As we put off our old self, we are renewed in the spirit of our minds. We are transformed by the truths of God’s Word, learning to think in new and right ways. This process enables us to love and serve the Lord with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength.

Union with Christ

Through baptism, we are united with Christ in His death and resurrection. We died to sin, and sin’s rule over us was broken. We are no longer enslaved to sin, but are alive to God in Christ Jesus. We must consider ourselves dead to sin and alive to God, living in newness of life.

Assurance and Confidence

God is faithful, and He will complete the good work He began in us. We can have confidence that He will be with us until Jesus returns, ensuring that we will inherit our eternal reward.
