When Evil Seems to Reign: Finding Hope in God’s Patience
As I reflect on the state of our world, I’m overwhelmed by the sheer scale of suffering and injustice. Mass shootings, natural disasters, refugees fleeing war-torn countries, famine, starvation, and racial hostility – the list goes on. It’s exhausting just to think about it.
A World in Need of Redemption
The Bible tells us that God is a just God, promising to right all wrongs and create a new heaven and a new earth. In his kingdom, there will be no more death, mourning, crying, or pain (Revelation 21:4). But in the face of such evil, it’s natural to wonder, “How long, O Lord? How long until you intervene?”
Doubt and Frustration
In my darkest moments, I’ve doubted God’s goodness, power, and even his existence. Will he really return to make things right? Does he care? Is he even there? Perhaps you’ve struggled with these same questions. Clinging to God’s promises in the face of such evil and suffering can feel like an uphill battle.
A Glimpse into God’s Heart
In 2 Peter 3:9, we’re given a glimpse into God’s heart and the reason for our waiting. He withholds his judgment and renewal because he yearns for people to repent and come to know him. What feels like slowness to us is actually an unimaginable long-suffering on his part, motivated by his love. He feels the weight of evil and injustice, yet he bears it for the sake of all who will turn to him.
Astonishing Patience and Love
Lord, thank you for your astonishing patience and love. Forgive my doubt and impatience, and increase my compassion for those far from you. Give me renewed strength to trust you and your promises, and use me to share your great love with others. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Finding Strength in God’s Promises
As we wait for God’s intervention, let’s remember that his patience is not a sign of weakness, but a testament to his love. May we find strength in his promises, and may our hearts be filled with compassion for those who don’t know him. Let’s pray for renewed trust in God’s goodness and power, and for opportunities to share his love with a world in need.
