The Unexpected Return of the Son of Man
When the Son of Man returns, it will be like a thief in the night – sudden and unexpected. No one knows the day or hour, not even the angels or the Son himself, but only the Father. This is a reminder to stay awake and be prepared, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour we do not expect.
The Signs of His Coming
Before the return of the Son of Man, there will be signs in the sun, moon, and stars. The powers of the heavens will be shaken, and people will faint with fear and foreboding. Then, the Son of Man will come in a cloud with power and great glory.
The Resurrection of the Dead
At the sound of the trumpet, the dead in Christ will rise first, and then those who are alive will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. This is the moment when mortality puts on immortality, and the redemption of the body takes place.
The Final Judgment
Every person has but a single life before eternal judgment. After death comes judgment, and there is no second chance to believe after death. The final judgment will take place when Christ comes again, and he will save those who are eagerly waiting for him.
The Announcement of the Coming King
Behold, the Son of Man is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him. All tribes of the earth will wail on account of him, for he is the Lord God, Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end of all history.
The Elect Will Be Gathered
When the Son of Man returns, he will send out his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. This is a promise of salvation and redemption for those who have put their trust in him.
The Day of the Lord
The day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night, when people are saying, “There is peace and security.” But sudden destruction will come upon them, and they will not escape. Therefore, we must be prepared and stay awake, for we do not know when the day of the Lord will come.
The Mystery of the Resurrection
We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. This is the mystery of the resurrection, where our bodies become spiritual and immortal like the bodies of those who are resurrected from the dead.
The Promise of Eternal Life
Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in Jesus. In his Father’s house are many rooms, and he goes to prepare a place for us. And if he goes and prepares a place for us, he will come again and will take us to himself, that where he is, we may be also. This is the promise of eternal life, where we will dwell with God forever.
