Embracing the Season of Old Age
As I approached my eightieth birthday, I felt a sense of purpose in seeking guidance from Scripture on how to honor God in this new chapter of life. Psalm 90 became my focus, and I asked the Lord to illuminate its teachings, that I might glorify Him in old age.
A Psalm of Aging and Wisdom
This psalm, penned by Moses, is a poignant reflection on the fleeting nature of human life and the timeless character of God. As I studied its verses, I began to grasp the significance of numbering our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom (Psalm 90:12). This truth resonated deeply with me, as I considered the brevity of life and the importance of living each day with intention and purpose.
Praying for Wisdom
My prayer, as I entered this season of old age, was that God would grant me the wisdom to prioritize what truly matters. I asked that He would help me discern between the essential and the trivial, that I might invest my time and energy in pursuits that bring Him glory. This prayer has become a daily refrain, as I seek to live a life that honors God and reflects His character.
Aging with Purpose
In a culture that often marginalizes the elderly, I have come to realize that old age can be a season of great fruitfulness. As I look to the biblical examples of men and women who remained faithful and active in their later years, I am inspired to follow their example. My prayer is that God will use me, even in old age, to advance His kingdom and bring joy to those around me.
Seeking God’s Strength
As physical strength wanes, I am reminded of the importance of seeking God’s strength. My prayer is that He will sustain me, body and soul, that I might remain steadfast in my faith and continue to bear fruit for His glory. In the words of Psalm 90:17, I ask that God will “establish the work of our hands,” that it may endure beyond my lifetime and bring blessing to generations to come.
