Finding Comfort in God’s Unwavering Mercy
As imperfect beings, we often find ourselves in need of reassurance and comfort. Fortunately, God’s mercy is always available to us, renewed each morning. In his book “New Morning Mercies: A Daily Gospel Devotional,” Paul David Tripp reminds us that God’s faithfulness is unwavering, and His mercies never grow old or fail to meet our needs.
A Steadfast Hope
Tripp emphasizes that our hope is not based on our own abilities or accomplishments, but rather on what Jesus has done for us. This understanding allows us to be courageous in admitting our sins, knowing that God is rich in mercy. As Tripp writes, “Hope is not a situation. Hope is not a location. Hope is not a possession. Hope is not an experience. Hope is more than an insight or a truism. Hope is a person, and his name is Jesus!”
God’s Presence in Our Lives
Even in our darkest moments, God is always with us. Tripp reminds us that God understands all the things that confuse us the most and is in complete charge of all that is mysterious to us. This knowledge brings us comfort and reassurance, allowing us to trust in God’s plan for our lives.
The Power of Prayer
Prayer is an essential part of our relationship with God, serving as a reminder that there is a greater glory than any glory we could ever want for ourselves. Tripp writes, “Prayer teaches you that there is a greater glory than any glory that you could ever want for yourself. Prayer is meant to help you remember that the deepest, most important motivation for every person who has ever taken a breath is the awe of God.”
Living in Relationship to God
Through Jesus’ sacrifice, we are able to live in relationship to God debt-free forever. Tripp emphasizes that if we are God’s children, we are not alone, and glorious grace has connected us to the One whose power and love don’t shift with the times. This understanding brings us peace and comfort, knowing that we are never left to our own resources.
