The Unseen Realm: Angels Among Us
Beyond the veil of our mundane lives, a world of powerful beings operates, often unseen and unacknowledged. The Bible pulls back the curtain, revealing a realm of angels who have been watching us since the dawn of time.
Ministers of God
In the book of Hebrews, we find a poignant description of these celestial creatures: “Who makes his angels winds and his ministers a flame of fire” (Hebrews 1:7). This passage paints a picture of mighty beings, tasked with serving as messengers and agents of God’s will. They are the ones who filled the night sky, announcing Christ’s coming to the shepherds. They strengthened their Lord in his darkest hour and rolled away the heavy stone on resurrection morning, striking fear into the hearts of the soldiers guarding the tomb.
A Purposeful Existence
As we ponder the existence of angels, it’s essential to remember their purpose. Many quietly minister to God’s people, serving their Lord who created them. However, there are those who have fallen, seeking to deceive men and claim worship for themselves. This is idolatry. We are warned not to listen to any angel bringing a different message than the truth that Jesus, made lower than the angels for a little while, is now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death to bring eternal life (Galatians 1:8).
Voices in the Wilderness
In the midst of this unseen realm, we are bombarded by competing voices. Evil spirits fight for our attention on earth, while in heaven, the voices of millions of angels and believers around the throne cry out, “Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, riches, wisdom, might, honor, glory, and blessing” (Revelation 5:12). As they fall down and worship, so should we.
A Prayer of Praise
Precious Lord, you have redeemed us to God by your blood and are worthy of our praise. You alone deserve our worship. Thank you for making us sons and daughters and bringing angels to minister to us. May we be aware of the unseen realm and mindful of the voices we listen to. May we always be drawn to the truth and worship you alone. Amen.
