The Blue Stain of Guilt

A young girl’s visit to our home took an unexpected turn when she was caught red-handed – or rather, blue-handed – by her mother. The incident revealed a stubborn refusal to admit fault, a trait that can be all too familiar in our own lives.

Pride and Denial

When confronted about her actions, the girl repeatedly denied touching the cue tip, despite the telltale blue chalk staining her palm. Her behavior illustrates the human tendency to avoid accountability and deny wrongdoing, even in the face of overwhelming evidence. This pride-fueled resistance to admitting sin can be a significant obstacle to spiritual growth.

God’s Love and Forgiveness

In contrast, God’s love for us is unwavering, even in the face of our sin. Romans 5:8 reminds us that “while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” This sacrificial love offers us a path to forgiveness and redemption, if we are willing to acknowledge our sin and accept Christ’s gift.

The Humble Path

Humility is key to receiving God’s forgiveness. By acknowledging our sin and confessing it, we open ourselves up to the transformative power of God’s love. On the other hand, pride and denial can lead to a life of stagnation and separation from God.

A Prayer for Forgiveness

“Dear God, my hands are blue with guilt for things I know displease you. Forgive me, and help me live responsibly in the joy of your forgiveness. Amen.”

The Power of Accountability

Confessing our sin to friends or family can be a powerful tool for growth, as it introduces accountability and encourages us to stay on the path of righteousness. By sharing our struggles with others, we can experience the overflow of God’s love in our lives and become a source of inspiration and encouragement to those around us.
