Serving with a Purpose
During the pandemic, a friend of mine did something remarkable. She traded her usual ministry of making prayer quilts for hospice patients and the elderly for creating cloth masks with a twist. Her masks featured clear plastic in the front, allowing deaf individuals to read lips and connect with their loved ones and teachers. By recognizing a need and using her talents to fill it, she embodied the spirit of discipleship.
Following Jesus’ Example
Jesus consistently saw people’s needs and helped them. Once their immediate struggles were alleviated, their hearts became more receptive to the message of salvation and love He offered. As His followers, we can do the same. We can find ways to serve others, no matter how small they may seem. A smile, a kind word, or a listening ear can go a long way in showing God’s love.
The Power of Small Acts
We often underestimate the impact of our small acts of kindness. However, God can take these actions and use them to bring people closer to Him. By being willing to serve and show compassion, we reflect Christ’s presence in our lives. Our attitudes and actions become a testament to the transformative power of God’s love.
Being Jesus to Others
When we see someone in need, we have the opportunity to be Jesus to them. We can offer a helping hand, a listening ear, or a comforting presence. By doing so, we create an opening for God to work in their lives. Our role is not to force our beliefs on others but to show them the love and compassion that has transformed us.
A Prayer for Discipleship
Lord God, please show me how You can use me to serve others. Help me be the disciple You want me to be, following Your Son’s example and sharing Your love with those around me. I pray this in Jesus’ name, my Lord and example. Amen.
Living as Christ’s Ambassadors
As followers of Jesus, we are called to be His ambassadors in the world. We can make a difference in the lives of those around us by serving with a purpose and sharing God’s love. May our actions and attitudes reflect the transformative power of Christ’s presence in our lives.
