Embracing the Unknown: Finding Peace in God’s Sovereignty
As we step into a new year, one thing is certain – uncertainty. The future is shrouded in mystery, and it’s natural to feel apprehensive about what lies ahead. But what if instead of worrying about the unknown, we focused on who is ahead of us? Our loving Father, God, goes before us, preparing the way and guiding us through life’s twists and turns.
Six Essential Needs for the New Year
- The Need for Prayer: As believers, we have the privilege of speaking to our living God, who invites us to come, hears our cries, and answers our prayers. Until we reach heaven, prayer will always be a vital part of our lives.
- The Need to Trust: God doesn’t want us to be fearful or worried about the future. He promises to provide what we need when we need it, reveal what we need to know when the time is right, and show us what we need to see when the moment arrives.
- The Need to Obey: We never outgrow our need for obedience. To obey God is to please Him, and He always gives us the provision, time, and opportunity to do what He asks.
- The Need to Forgive: No one is perfect, and even those who love us will make mistakes. Forgiveness is a heart attitude and a choice that we must make daily.
- The Need to be Faithful: We must press on in God’s will, walking through valleys and over mountain tops, serving others with love, and living with a thankful heart, praise on our lips, and zeal in our spirit.
- The Need for Jesus: Every day, in every moment, we need Jesus fully and completely. We need His grace to enable us, His Spirit to empower us, His strength to support us, and His counsel to instruct us in all God’s will.
Finding Peace in God’s Sovereignty
When we focus on God’s sovereignty, we can let go of our worries about the future. As Fenelon said, “We must leave to God all that depends on Him, and think only of being faithful in all that depends upon ourselves.” By carrying ourselves with total resignation to God’s will, we can trust that He will do what is best for us.
A New Year, A New Perspective
As we enter this new year, let’s shift our focus from the unknown to the known – God’s love, sovereignty, and faithfulness. May we strive to trust Him completely, obey Him wholeheartedly, and forgive others freely. In doing so, we’ll find peace, joy, and purpose in the midst of uncertainty.
