Reflecting on Our Relationship with God
As we journey through life, it’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of daily routines without taking a moment to pause and reflect on our relationship with God. However, it’s essential to evaluate our spiritual lives regularly, just as the people of God did when they were rebuked by the prophet Haggai.
A Call to Reflection
“Consider your ways!” (Haggai 1:5) is a timely reminder to assess our priorities and actions. Even the most faithful among us need to take a step back and examine the direction of our lives. The start of a new year presents the perfect opportunity to do just that.
Guiding Questions for Spiritual Reflection
To help you “consider your ways,” here are some questions to ask yourself in the presence of God:
- What are my top priorities for the coming year?
- How can I cultivate a deeper relationship with God?
- What habits or practices can I adopt to improve my spiritual well-being?
The Power of Focused Reflection
The value of these questions lies not in their complexity but in their ability to bring focus to specific issues or commitments. By articulating your thoughts and desires, you’ll be more likely to remember them and make positive changes in your life.
Putting Reflection into Practice
Don’t just limit your reflection to once a year. Place these questions in a spot where you can review them frequently, such as a day planner or calendar. Make plans and set goals, but also remember your dependence on God, who said, “Apart from Me you can do nothing” (John 15:5).
Living with Biblical Diligence
As we embark on a new year, let’s strive to live with biblical diligence, remembering that “the plans of the diligent lead surely to advantage” (Proverbs 21:5). May our reflections guide us toward a deeper relationship with God and a more purposeful life.
