“Preaching Christ from All the Scriptures: The Power of Biblical Theology”

Unlocking the Power of Biblical Theology

As pastors and church leaders, we have a weighty responsibility to preach Christ from all the Scriptures. But how can we do this faithfully? The answer lies in biblical theology, a vital tool that helps us declare the glorious truth that Jesus is the main point of the whole Bible.

Jesus: The Hero of the Story

In Luke 24, Jesus makes a shocking statement: all of the Old Testament was written about him. He identifies himself as the promised Messiah, the one who holds everything together (Colossians 1:17). The Old Testament points forward to his coming, while the New Testament proclaims his arrival and mission to all nations.

The Discipline of Biblical Theology

Biblical theology is a way of reading all of Scripture as the story of God’s King and his plan to rescue and redeem a people for his praise. It provides a framework for understanding the whole Bible, guiding our reading and guarding against bad interpretation. By keeping our focus on Jesus, biblical theology helps us grasp the main purpose of Scripture: to glorify God in this world.

Four Ways Biblical Theology Serves Pastors

  1. Faithful Interpretation: Biblical theology helps us read Scripture in a way that leads us to Jesus, avoiding false gospels and churches.
  2. Understanding the Whole Story: By seeing each passage in light of the whole Bible, we understand how every part of Scripture relates to Jesus.
  3. Guarding the True Gospel: Biblical theology protects us from false teaching and guides us in proclaiming the true gospel to the world.
  4. Equipping the Church: By understanding the whole story of Scripture, we can equip the church to disciple the nations and proclaim Jesus Christ to all peoples.

From Genesis to Revelation

Jesus is the hero and point of the story, from creation to the final redemption. By reading Scripture through the lens of biblical theology, we can see how every part of the Bible fits into the grand narrative of God’s plan to rescue and redeem a people for his praise.

A Call to Action

May all of Christ’s shepherds feed the flock of God by proclaiming the glories of the Chief Shepherd from all the Scriptures until he comes. Let us use biblical theology to guard the true gospel and guide the church in its mission to the world.
