The Purpose of Life: Glorifying God
The Bible is clear: we were created to bring glory to God. In Isaiah 43:6-7, it is written, “Bring my sons from afar and my daughters from the end of the earth, everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory.” Our lives are wasted when we do not live for the glory of God.
What Does it Mean to Glorify God?
Glorifying God is not about adding to His glory, but rather about reflecting His greatness. It’s like using a telescope to magnify the beauty of the stars, making them appear as they truly are. We glorify God by living our lives in a way that makes Him look great, beautiful, and worthy of our admiration.
The Distortion of Love
In our culture, love is often distorted to mean making someone feel good about themselves. However, true love is about doing what is best for someone, even if it means sacrificing their self-esteem. God’s love for us is not about boosting our self-image, but about liberating us from the bondage of self so that we can enjoy knowing and admiring Him forever.
Eternal Life
Eternal life is not about eternal self-esteem or a heaven full of earthly pleasures. According to Jesus, eternal life is about knowing God and His Son, Jesus Christ (John 17:3). This is the ultimate satisfaction of the soul, and it is what we were created for.
God’s Love for Us
God loves us by giving us the best gift possible: Himself. He sent Jesus Christ to die for us so that we could come home to the all-satisfying Father (1 Peter 3:18). God’s love is not about making us feel good about ourselves, but about rescuing us from our addiction to self and bringing us into His presence, where there is fullness of joy and pleasures forevermore (Psalm 16:11).
Living for God’s Glory
Our lives are not about us; they are about God. We were created to bring glory to Him, and we do this by living our lives in a way that reflects His greatness. When we prioritize God’s glory, we find true satisfaction and purpose. Let us not waste our lives on selfish pursuits, but instead, let us live for the glory of God.
