Finding Faithfulness in Everyday Life
As Christian women, we often find ourselves navigating multiple roles and responsibilities. We may be wives, mothers, professionals, or a combination of these. But in the midst of our busy lives, it’s easy to lose sight of what’s truly important. The question we must ask ourselves is: Am I faithfully obeying God as his child by meeting the genuine needs of others, or am I pursuing self-actualization, self-fulfillment, or selfish ambition apart from him?
Dying to Self
Faithfulness requires a kind of death – death to self and selfish ambition. This means laying down our own desires and interests for the sake of others. It means being willing to make sacrifices, even if they are difficult or uncomfortable. But in this death, we find life – life where Christ is working his way into and out of everything we do.
Living Out Our Callings
So, what does faithfulness look like in everyday life? For a single mom, it may mean working hard to provide for her children’s needs, even if it means sacrificing her own desires. For a married woman, it may mean laying down her own career ambitions to prioritize her family. For a professional woman, it may mean using her gifts and talents to serve others, rather than just advancing her own career.
Seeking Wisdom
But how do we know what faithfulness looks like in our specific situation? We seek wisdom from God’s Word, his Spirit, and his people. We look to the Bible for guidance on how to live out our callings as Christian women. We seek counsel from our local church and the relationships within it. And we trust in the guidance of the Holy Spirit to lead us in every circumstance.
Work: Not About Us
Our work – whether in the home or out of it – is not about us. It’s not about making a name for ourselves or achieving success. It’s about serving others and bringing glory to God. When we remember that our work is not about us, we can approach it with a sense of freedom and joy. We can excel in every area, not for our own sake, but for the sake of others and for the glory of God.
Trusting in God’s Guidance
Ultimately, we must trust in God’s guidance and sovereignty in every circumstance. We must trust that he has prepared good works for us to do, and that he will guide us in every step. When we trust in God’s guidance, we can approach our work and our lives with confidence and joy. We can know that we are living out our callings as Christian women, and that we are bringing glory to God in every area of our lives.
