Spiritual Stability: A Life of Purpose and Endurance
In a world where inconsistency and instability seem to reign, Christians are called to live a life that is “worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God” (Colossians 1:10). But how can we achieve this? The answer lies in being “filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding” (Colossians 1:9).
The Power of Spiritual Wisdom
When we are filled with the knowledge of God’s will, our choices reflect godly wisdom and understanding. This is not just about knowing God’s Word, but about applying it to our lives under the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. As we saturate our minds with God’s Word, it begins to control our thinking and behavior, and the Spirit uses it to renew our minds and protect us from conformity to worldly attitudes and actions.
Bearing Spiritual Fruit
Just like a farmer who enjoys a plentiful harvest after diligent effort, bearing spiritual fruit requires us to be intentional and disciplined in pursuing the knowledge of God’s will. This is not an unthinking or haphazard process, but rather one that requires us to be diligent in our pursuit of spiritual growth. As our knowledge of God’s Word increases, the Holy Spirit renews our minds and transforms our thinking.
Empowered for Spiritual Stability
Despite the inconsistencies that often characterize our lives, God has empowered us to live a life of spiritual stability. This power is proportional to God’s abundant supply, which is inexhaustible! When we allow the knowledge of his will to control our lives, we are strengthened with all power, according to the might of his glory. This results in endurance and patience, which enable us to bear up under trials and respond in a biblical, thoughtful, and calculated way.
A Life of Purpose and Endurance
As Christians, we are called to live a life that is purposeful and enduring. This requires us to be intentional about our spiritual growth and to rely on the infinite power that is ours in Christ. When we trust God and allow the knowledge of his will to control our lives, we are empowered to live a life that is worthy of the Lord and reflects the character of Christ.
Reflection
Is your life characterized by spiritual stability and endurance? Are you intentionally pursuing the knowledge of God’s will and allowing it to control your life? Remember that God has empowered you to live a life that is worthy of the Lord, and that his power is available to you in abundance.
