Walking with Jesus to the Cross: A 9-Day Journey
As Easter approaches, the church comes together to reflect on the pivotal events leading up to Jesus’s death. It’s a time to remember the people and places that played a crucial role in his journey to the cross. Over the next nine days, we’ll explore the Scripture together, revisiting the familiar stories with fresh eyes.
The Realness of the Story
It’s easy to forget that Jesus walked on actual ground, in real time, with living, breathing people. The story of Easter is not just a theological concept, but a historical event that changed the course of human history. As noted in “The Final Days of Jesus,” the Easter story is true – historically and theologically.
Exploring the Gospel Accounts
While the primary purpose of the Gospels is to inspire faith and discipleship, it’s also legitimate to explore the accounts intelligently. As Augustine said, “Faith seeks greater understanding.” By combining a chronological arrangement of the biblical text with insightful commentary, we can gain a deeper understanding of Jesus’s final week on earth.
A 9-Day Devotional
This devotional pairs passages of Scripture with notes and images adapted from the ESV Archaeology Study Bible. Each day, we’ll enter into the story of Jesus’s final days, exploring the people, places, and events that shaped his journey to the cross. We’ll discover the realness of the story and be changed by it.
