Choosing Between Two Kingdoms: A Christian’s Guide to Financial Sanity

The Great Kingdom Conflict: Where Do Your Finances Stand?

As followers of Jesus, we are constantly faced with a choice between two kingdoms: the kingdom of self and the kingdom of God. Every decision we make, every action we take, is driven by our allegiance to one of these two kingdoms. But what does this mean for our finances?

The Kingdom of Self: A Delusional System

When we live for the kingdom of self, we tend to invest our time, energy, and money in physical treasures that promise to bring us comfort and pleasure. We become obsessed with acquiring things, convinced that the next big purchase will finally satisfy our desires. But it never does. We’re left with a trail of discarded “delivery systems” that failed to deliver on their promises.

The Kingdom of God: A Different Perspective

Jesus teaches us a different way. In the Lord’s Prayer, He says, “Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” This is not just a prayer; it’s a plea for God to transform our hearts and minds. When we love God’s kingdom more than our own, we begin to see our finances in a new light. We start to ask questions like: How would my finances change if I loved God’s kingdom so much that it’s where I wanted to invest my time, energy, and money?

A God’s-Kingdom Focus: The Key to Financial Sanity

When we focus on God’s kingdom, we gain a fresh understanding of money. We realize that true financial sanity is not about accumulating wealth or material possessions, but about using our resources to further God’s purposes. We start to budget and give with God’s kingdom in view, making decisions that align with His values and priorities.

Where Does Your Allegiance Lie?

So, where does your allegiance lie? Are your finances driven by the kingdom of self or the kingdom of God? Take a closer look at your budget, your spending habits, and your giving. Are you investing in eternal values or fleeting pleasures? It’s time to reassess your priorities and make a change.

True Financial Sanity: A Surrender to God’s Kingdom

True financial sanity is only found when we surrender the kingdom of self to the greater purposes and eternal vision of the kingdom of God. It’s time to pray, “Your will be done right here, right now, in my finances as it is in heaven.” Will you join me in this journey towards financial sanity and a deeper love for God’s kingdom?
