The Unseen War on Children
As I walked through the convention hall, I was stopped by a familiar-looking couple with a stroller. They introduced themselves as former students from the seminary where I taught, and we reminisced about our meeting years ago to discuss adoption. But it was the little boy in the stroller who caught my attention – his dark skin and Arabic features a stark contrast to the predominantly white crowd around us.
As I played with the child, his parents shared their harrowing experience with a judge who couldn’t fathom why they would want to adopt a dark-skinned child. The judge’s words still echoed in my mind: “No one would ever want a child like that.” I felt a lump form in my throat as I hugged the little boy, trying to reassure him that he was loved and wanted.
But this encounter only scratched the surface of a much deeper issue. As I delved into the history of my own denomination, I discovered a disturbing legacy of racism and slavery. Previous generations of preachers had justified the enslavement of people based on the color of their skin, leaving countless children orphaned and vulnerable.
This is not just a relic of the past. Today, we see the same patterns of exploitation and abuse repeated in different forms. Children are being destroyed, both literally and figuratively, by systems that prioritize power and convenience over their well-being.
The Spiritual Warfare Behind Child Abuse
So, where does this orphan-making urge come from? It’s not just a product of economic or sociological factors, but a symptom of a deeper spiritual war. The Bible reveals a cosmic struggle between good and evil, with the devil seeking to devour and destroy the most vulnerable among us – children.
Jesus showed his disciple John a vision of a woman giving birth to a male child, with a dragon crouched before her birth canal, seeking to devour the baby. This is not just a metaphor, but a reality that plays out in the lives of countless children every day.
The Protection of Children is Spiritual Warfare
The protection of children is not just a charitable cause or a political program – it’s spiritual warfare. We are fighting against the forces of darkness that seek to destroy the most vulnerable among us. Our God forbids the sacrifice of children to demon-gods like Molech, and warns us that those who turn a blind eye to such practices will be cut off from His people.
Today, we see the spirit of Molech at work in the world around us – in the grinding of babies’ bones, the sexual assault of children, and the destruction of families. But we can make a difference. We can choose to stand with Joseph, the reluctant day laborer who became a father to Jesus, and fight for the protection of children.
Will We Hear the Cries of the Fatherless?
The universe is at war, and children are on the line. Will we hear the cries of the fatherless, or will we turn a deaf ear? The choice is ours. We can choose to stand with the Father, who hears the cries of the oppressed, or we can stand with the forces of darkness that seek to destroy them.
The old Serpent is coiled, watching for infants and children to consume. But we can be the ones who stand in his way, who fight for the protection of children, and who bring hope to a world torn apart by evil. The question is, will we answer the call?
