The Majesty of God’s Redemptive Plan
God’s condescension is a wonder to behold, a testament to his infinite love and mercy. In his redemptive plan, he has chosen to reveal himself to humanity in ways that defy human understanding. Through scripture, we catch glimpses of his majesty, and our hearts are awestruck by the beauty of his plan.
The Incarnation of God
In John 1:14, we read, “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” Here, we see the eternal, omnipotent, omnipresent Son of God taking on human nature, living among humanity as both God and man. This is the most amazing event in all of history, a testament to God’s desire to redeem his people.
God’s Progressive Revelation
Throughout scripture, we see God’s progressive revelation of himself to humanity. In Hebrews 1:1-2, we read, “Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son.” This passage highlights the contrast between God’s revelation in the Old Testament and his ultimate revelation in Jesus Christ.
The Messiah’s Coming
In Isaiah 9:6, we read, “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Here, we see a prophecy of the coming Messiah, who would bring salvation to humanity.
God’s Sovereignty and Mercy
In Galatians 4:4-5, we read, “But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.” This passage highlights God’s sovereignty and mercy in sending his Son to redeem humanity.
The Triumphal Entry
In Zechariah 9:9, we read, “Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.” Here, we see a prophecy of Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem, a fulfillment of scripture that would change the course of human history.
The Gift of Eternal Life
In John 3:16, we read, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” This passage is perhaps the most famous summary of the gospel in all of scripture, highlighting God’s love for humanity and the gift of eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ.
The Humility of Christ
In Philippians 2:8, we read, “And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.” Here, we see the ultimate expression of Christ’s humility, as he willingly laid down his life on the cross for the sake of humanity.
The Virgin Birth
In Isaiah 7:14, we read, “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.” This passage is a prophecy of the virgin birth of Jesus Christ, a miraculous event that would change the course of human history.
Through these passages, we catch glimpses of God’s majestic redemptive plan, a plan that is both beautiful and mysterious. May our hearts be awestruck by the wonder of his love and mercy, and may we be drawn to him in faith and adoration.
