Finding Hope in the Darkest Times
As a mother and a medical professional, I’ve seen my fair share of struggles. But nothing could have prepared me for the anguish in my little boy’s eyes when he asked, “Mom, are you going to get COVID?” The fear and uncertainty were palpable, and I knew I had to find a way to reassure him.
A Glimmer of Hope
In that moment, I turned to what has always brought me comfort: God’s word. We began to study Scripture together, exploring stories of hope and redemption. We read about Job and Joseph, and how they persevered in the face of adversity. And we delved into the Gospels, learning about Jesus’ love and sacrifice.
The Power of Storytelling
But our journey didn’t end there. We also turned to fiction, immersing ourselves in the world of Narnia and Middle Earth. Through the stories of C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien, we found vibrant moments of hope and courage. These tales reminded us that even in the darkest times, good will ultimately triumph over evil.
Redemptive Arcs
As we read, I began to notice a pattern. The best stories – the ones that lingered in our imagination long after we finished reading – all had a common thread. They echoed the gospel, reminding us of the ultimate happy ending: life in Christ. This realization sparked a new appreciation for the power of storytelling.
A Legacy of Hope
As a parent, I want to leave my children with a legacy of hope. I want them to know that no matter what challenges they face, they can always find comfort in God’s word and in the stories that reflect His love. By sharing these tales with them, I’m not only teaching them about literacy and academics; I’m imparting a deeper understanding of biblical truths.
A Wind from the Sea
The next time you’re struggling to find hope, remember that it’s always there, just beneath the surface. Look for the redemptive arcs in the stories you read. Seek out the echoes of the gospel. And when you do, you’ll find that the darkness begins to lift, and the light of hope shines through. As Psalm 22:31 reminds us, “Morning will come, and a wind from the sea. And darkness will be removed, because He has done it.”
