Finding Our Gospel Mind in a Busy World
As Christians, we’ve all been there – caught up in the hustle and bustle of life, losing sight of what truly matters. It’s not about intentionally walking away from our faith, but rather a subtle forgetfulness that can creep in. We start to live as if God doesn’t exist, the Bible is just a book, and Jesus’ sacrifice is merely a distant memory.
When We Lose Our Gospel Mind
It happens in the heat of an argument, when getting our point across becomes more important than showing love and kindness. It happens when we prioritize job promotions over people and relationships. It happens when we allow bitterness and envy to consume us, robbing us of joy and peace. These are just a few examples of how we can lose our gospel mind.
The Influence of Culture
We live in a world where materialistic and worldly values are constantly competing for our attention. Social media platforms like Twitter, TikTok, and Instagram can be powerful tools for distraction, causing us to forget what’s truly valuable in life. It’s easy to get caught up in comparing our lives to others and feeling like we don’t measure up.
God’s Gift to Us
But in the midst of all this chaos, God meets us with the gift of his church. The regular gathering of believers is not just an obligation or duty; it’s a welcome respite from the world’s influence. It’s a chance to remember, grieve, celebrate, and live in light of the beautiful values of the gospel.
The Value of Corporate Worship
When we gather together as a church, we’re reminded that the most valuable thing in life can’t be earned or achieved. It’s not something we can purchase or own. The most valuable thing in life is an eternal gift of divine grace – our forgiveness, acceptance, and guaranteed destiny as children of God. This gift allows us to live at the intersection of humility and hope, with radical honesty about our weaknesses and courage to pursue spiritual maturity.
Receiving God’s Gift
May we look forward to our weekly gatherings with anticipation, just as we would a gift from a loved one. May we receive God’s gift of the church with joy, not neglecting to meet together, but encouraging one another, and all the more as we see the Day drawing near (Hebrews 10:25).
A New Perspective
When we prioritize the church and corporate worship, our lives take on new meaning and purpose. We no longer look to the world for life, but instead, we joyfully live out the life that’s been given to us by redeeming grace alone. May we shift our gaze from our hurt and disappointment and behold the church through the eyes of Christ.
