Mothers, Where Is Your Hope?

The Heart of a Mother: Where is Your Hope?

As mothers, our words and actions reveal what’s truly important to us. If we were to record our conversations and play them back, we’d likely discover some interesting patterns. What we talk about and what we prioritize show where our hope lies.

For many of us, our hope can become misplaced. We might find ourselves obsessed with waiting to hear back from a friend or worried about how we interacted with someone. Our insecurities can consume us, causing us to be less present with our families.

But what if our voice recorders captured a different conversation? One where our greatest concern is sharing the gospel with those around us? As disciple-makers, our primary message should be the good news of Jesus Christ.

The Gospel: Our Main Message

As nurturing women, we have many messages competing for our attention. But as disciple-makers, our priority is communicating the gospel. It motivates us to care for those suffering, drives us to dream big, and invites the world to worship with us at the feet of Jesus.

Missional motherhood means making disciples is our primary goal. The gospel is the good news that delivers us from our greatest problem – sin. No other news compares. Jesus Christ is the end of righteousness for all who believe, and his person and work are the message we communicate.

A Fresh Perspective on Motherhood

Gloria Furman offers a fresh, biblical perspective on motherhood, helping us live out God’s story of redemption as we share the gospel with those around us. We don’t hold out worldly, fake hope to our children; we hold out the good news of the gospel.

The Gospel: Life-Giving News

The gospel is not good advice for moms; it’s life-giving news. It’s something we herald. As the old hymn goes, “Nothing but the blood of Jesus” is our plea for pardon and cleansing. Let us prioritize sharing this good news with our families and those around us.

God’s Grand Plan for Motherhood

God has created and equipped women to nurture the life he creates – both biological and spiritual. Not even the love of a mother for her children can compare to the love of God. As we live out our calling as mothers, let us remember that our hope lies in the gospel, and our priority is sharing it with others.
