**Beyond the Lens of Distortion**
Imagine living in a place where the sun shines bright for most of the year. Sounds idyllic, doesn’t it? But, as I’ve come to realize, even the most beautiful things can have a darker side. Prolonged exposure to the sun’s UV rays can lead to serious health issues, like cataracts and degenerative diseases. To combat this, we wear sunglasses, which, ironically, can also distort our view of the world.
I recall a recent drive with my husband, where I pointed out the ominous clouds gathering on the horizon. But when I removed my sunglasses, I was surprised to see that the sky wasn’t as dark as I thought. It got me thinking – are we wearing spiritual sunglasses that alter our perception of people and the world around us?
We’re called to love our enemies, but do we really believe that God’s love extends to them? Do we trust in Jesus’ power over the storms of life, or do we cower in fear? We’re offered victory over sin and death, but do we truly accept it?
Just as eye surgeons perform cataract surgery to restore clear vision, God waits for us to consent to his restorative work. He wants to help us see him, his creation, and ourselves with perfect clarity. The psalmist prayed, “Open my eyes…” – a prayer that can become our daily reality when we remove the distorted lens of our own pessimism and faithlessness.
What if we saw the world through God’s eyes, unfiltered by our own biases and doubts? How would our viewpoint of the people and world around us change? The answer lies in fixing our eyes on Jesus, and allowing him to illuminate our understanding.
