The Power of Active Love
A Heart that Beats with God’s Love
In the midst of our daily lives, it’s easy to fall into a state of passivity when it comes to loving God and others. We can get caught up in “godly” activities, thinking we’re doing the right thing, but ultimately avoiding a deeper connection with God and those around us. This passivity can lead to sin and a search for acceptance in all the wrong places.
The True Bread of Heaven
Jesus reminds us in John 6:55-58 that He is the true bread that came down from heaven, and that anyone who eats this bread will live forever. This is not just a physical sustenance, but a spiritual one. When we feed on Jesus, we are filled with His love and compelled to action.
Love as an Action
Love is not just a feeling, but an action. God’s love is active in us when we allow Him to work in and through us. As we grow closer to Jesus, we grow closer to those around us. But it’s easy to become complacent and let passivity creep in.
A Heart Issue
Passivity is a heart issue. When we surrender our hearts to God, He fills us with His Spirit and His love, which compels us to action. We must be willing to let go of our pride and allow God’s love to guide us into action and into a deeper relationship with Him and others.
Moving Beyond the Motions
Matthew West’s song “The Motions” expresses the desire to move beyond passivity in our relationship with God. We must let our hearts defeat our minds and allow God’s love to make us whole. The “something” we need to feel is more of God’s love, which is irreplaceable and unconditional.
A Prayer for Action
Father, we humbly come to You. Please reveal where we have let passivity creep in. Remove our pride and let us overflow with Your love. May Your love guide us into action and into a deeper relationship with You and others. Amen.
A Thought to Ponder
Are you feeling numb in your relationship with God? Ask the Lord to reveal Himself in a new way to you.
