Prayer: The Guiding Force in Our Lives
In the midst of life’s chaos, it’s easy to lose sight of what truly matters. But what if we had a constant companion to guide us through every decision, every challenge, and every triumph? For Bill, my husband, that companion was prayer.
A Life of Prayer
Bill’s commitment to prayer was inspiring. He believed that every aspect of life, no matter how big or small, was an opportunity to seek God’s wisdom and guidance. From the mundane, like choosing what to wear, to the monumental, like navigating personal crises, Bill turned to prayer. As he often said, “The more frequently you share your thoughts and desires with your Lord, the closer you come to Him.”
A Crisis Averted
One fateful morning, God woke Bill up at 2 am with a urgent message. One of our staff associates was facing a personal crisis, and Bill was prompted to pray for him and seek God’s wisdom on how to respond. The next day, Bill met with our friend, equipped with the guidance he had received through prayer. It was a turning point in their lives, and a testament to the power of prayer.
Prayer: The Steering Wheel of Life
As Corrie ten Boom so eloquently put it, “Is prayer your steering wheel or your spare tire?” For Bill, prayer was the guiding force that directed his every move. It’s a lesson we can all learn from. When we make prayer a priority, we open ourselves up to God’s wisdom, guidance, and comfort.
The Greater Work
E.M. Bounds once said, “Talking to men for God is a great thing, but talking to God for men is greater still.” In a world that often emphasizes action over introspection, we must remember that prayer is not just a spare tire, but the very engine that drives our lives. So, let us take heed of Paul’s words in 1 Thessalonians 5:17: “Keep on praying.”
