Awaken to God’s Unconditional Love: Breaking Free from Passivity

Reviving the Heart of Love

The Active Nature of God’s Love

Jesus’ words in John 6:55-58 remind us that His flesh is true food and His blood is true drink, and that whoever eats and drinks of Him will remain in Him and He in them. This profound truth underscores the active nature of God’s love, which is only possible when we surrender our hearts to Him.

The Dangers of Passivity

As we grow in our relationship with Jesus, we naturally grow closer to those around us. However, it’s easy to become complacent in our love for God and others, leaving the door open for sin to enter. Sometimes, we disguise our passivity with ‘godly’ activities, using them as a means to avoid genuine intimacy with God and others. This can lead to seeking acceptance through relationships and material things, a form of idolatry.

A Heart Issue

Passivity is a heart issue, rooted in our failure to surrender fully to God. When we do, He fills us with His Spirit and love, compelling us to take action. It’s essential to recognize the subtle ways passivity can creep into our lives, causing us to miss out on the transformative power of God’s love.

Beyond the Motions

Matthew West’s song, “The Motions,” echoes our desire to move beyond superficiality in our relationship with God. We must let our hearts defeat our minds, allowing God’s love to make us whole. The “something” we need to feel is more of God’s love – irreplaceable, unconditional, and essential for our daily lives.

A Prayer for Revival

Father, we come to You humbly, asking You to reveal areas where passivity has taken hold. Remove our pride, and let Your love overflow from us. May Your love guide us into action, deepening our relationship with You and others. Amen.

Reflection

Are you feeling numb in your relationship with God? Ask the Lord to reveal Himself in a new way to you, and be open to the transformation that follows.
