Rekindling Joy in God’s Presence: A Call to Devotion

Rediscovering Joy in the Lord’s Presence

As I reflect on the sudden change in my cat Percy’s behavior, I’m struck by the parallels with my own relationship with God. Just a few weeks ago, Percy was a solitary figure, only emerging from his outdoor adventures when he needed something from us. But since his companion disappeared, he’s transformed into a playful, attentive, and inquisitive companion, always seeking attention and affection.

I couldn’t help but ask myself: Am I like Percy, too busy doing my own thing to prioritize time with the Lord? Do I only come to Him when I need something, neglecting the joy of His presence in my daily life?

A Call to Devotion

The Bible reminds us of the importance of devoting our hearts to God, letting go of sin and evil influences that distract us from His love. As Job 11:13-19 so eloquently puts it: “If you put away the sin that is in your hand and allow no evil to dwell in your tent, then you will lift up your face without shame; you will stand firm and without fear.”

Freedom from Fear and Shame

When we choose to prioritize our relationship with God, we can experience a life free from fear and shame. We’ll forget our troubles, just as the waters of the past fade away. Our lives will be brighter than noonday, and darkness will become like morning. We’ll be secure, knowing that hope is our anchor.

Resting in Safety

As we lie down in the presence of God, we’ll find rest and safety, free from the fear of others. We’ll be courted by favor and enjoy the beauty of His love. May this be our prayer this week: to devote our hearts to Him, to stretch out our hands in surrender, and to experience the joy of His presence in our lives.

Amen.
