Reflecting God’s Glory in Everyday Life: Spreading Joy and Kindness

Reflecting the Glory of God in Everyday Life

As I stroll through the bustling shopping area near my home, I’m reminded of the importance of spreading joy and kindness. Every morning, I pass by a homeless man sitting on the sidewalk, his hat covering most of his face. He doesn’t ask for money; he simply sits there, often overlooked by passersby. But I’ve made it a point to acknowledge him with a warm smile and a cheerful “Good morning!” His response, though toothless, is always a heartwarming smile and a returned greeting.

Breaking Down Barriers

It’s remarkable how a simple act of kindness can bring encouragement to someone who feels invisible. Most people avoid eye contact with the homeless, but a brief moment of connection can work wonders. This experience has taught me the value of reflecting God’s glory in everyday interactions.

Mirrors of God’s Glory

The Bible reminds us in 2 Corinthians 3:18 that as Christians, we have no veils over our faces; we can be mirrors that brightly reflect the glory of the Lord. As the Spirit of the Lord works within us, we become more and more like Him. This concept is beautifully echoed by Bill Bright, who writes that we can be mirrors that reflect God’s glory as we mature in our faith.

God’s Transforming Power

Max Lucado puts it succinctly: God loves us just the way we are, but He refuses to leave us that way. He wants us to be just like Jesus. This transformation is possible through the power of the Holy Spirit, who works within us to change our attitudes and actions (Philippians 2:13). I’ve experienced this firsthand, and it has made a significant difference in my life and relationships.

Practical Applications

My husband Marvin and I have learned to put this promise into practice, and it has enriched our marriage. We’ve discovered that the Holy Spirit helps us respond graciously to difficult situations, whether it’s dealing with a grumpy clerk or coping with frustrating drivers. We can choose to be thankful even when things don’t go as planned.

Embracing God’s Promise

I encourage you to claim the promise of Philippians 2:13 and allow the Holy Spirit to work in your life. As you do, you’ll become a reflection of God’s glory, spreading joy and kindness to those around you. Whether at home, at work, or in your daily interactions, remember that God is always listening and empowering you to become more like Jesus.

A Heartfelt Prayer

Dear Lord, thank you for changing us so we become more and more like Jesus. Thank you for giving us everything we need to be mirrors that reflect Your glory. Amen.
