Unlocking the Power of Following Jesus
A Life-Changing Encounter
As I sat on a rough wooden bench, listening to the pastor’s words, my thirsty spirit was revitalized. Despite years of serving as missionaries in Africa, I felt defeated as a Christian. But this man, with a small New Testament in hand, was about to reveal a crucial missing piece in my life.
The Shift from Self-Centeredness
“To truly follow Jesus, you must leave behind self-centered thinking and praying,” the pastor emphasized. “It’s not about ‘Bless me, help me, give me, come along with me Jesus.’ A true follower wants to know ‘What is Your will, Jesus? Where are You going today? What are You doing today? I want to be a part of it.’”
A New Perspective
These life-changing words have stayed with me to this day. Seeking Christ’s agenda each day has lifted the burden of performance off my shoulders. It has opened doors to unexpected joys and surprises.
A Chance Encounter
One day, I met a woman struggling with deep loneliness. I asked if I could visit her, and we listened to a Billy Graham tape on loneliness together. As we parted ways, she asked if she could pray to invite Jesus into her life. I was humbled to be a part of her journey. That morning, I had no idea I’d play a small role in bringing another soul into God’s kingdom. But it was all part of God’s plan.
A Heartfelt Prayer
Lord Jesus, I pray to be attuned to Your daily plans. Use me to help someone and bring You glory. Amen.
A Life of Purpose
By shifting our focus from self-centeredness to seeking Christ’s agenda, we can unlock a life of purpose and joy. May we be attentive to the whispers of the Holy Spirit, guiding us towards a life of true discipleship.
