When God’s Timing Defies Ours: Holding On to Faith in the Wait

When Time Stands Still

Have you ever felt like Jairus, desperate for a miracle as the clock ticks away? His precious daughter lay dying, and every moment counted. Yet, when he sought Jesus’ help, the Lord seemed to take His time, stopping to converse with a woman who had been suffering from a medical condition for twelve long years.

A Father’s Frustration

Jairus must have felt like screaming, “Can’t you see my daughter is dying? Why are you wasting time?” But Jesus was not swayed by human urgency. Instead, He took the time to heal the woman, ignoring the crowd’s skepticism and the disciples’ impatience.

The Unexpected Twist

Just as Jesus finished speaking with the woman, messengers arrived with devastating news: Jairus’ daughter had passed away. It seemed like all hope was lost. But Jesus’ response was immediate and reassuring: “Don’t be afraid; just believe.” In that moment, Jairus had to choose between trusting in God’s sovereignty and giving in to despair.

A Heavenly Perspective

God’s timing often defies human understanding. As 2 Peter 3:8 reminds us, “With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.” While we may not comprehend the delay, we can be confident that God’s response will always be good, just, and glorifying to Him.

Holding On to Faith

If you’re waiting for an answer to your prayers, don’t lose heart. Jesus encourages us to persevere, just like the persistent widow in Luke 18:1-8. Remember, God is always working for your good, even when His timing seems slow.

Reflections

What prayer has been weighing heavily on your heart lately? Are you willing to surrender it to God’s perfect timing, trusting that He will answer in His own way and time? Take a deep breath and let faith carry you through the waiting.
