Unleashing the Power of Beautiful Acts
In a world where kindness and compassion often take a backseat, it’s heartwarming to come across stories that inspire us to make a difference. Recently, I stumbled upon an incredible tale of a Christian organization that has been working tirelessly to bring hope to farming families in Sri Lanka’s Polonnaruwa District, who have been ravaged by the devastating effects of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD).
A Lifeline in the Desert
This organization has taken a remarkable step towards providing pure drinking water to over 8,000 people by building eight ‘afe water’ community wells with filtration units. Their goal is to construct 15 such wells, and their efforts have already started bearing fruit. In one village, a selfless farmer, who was himself struggling with CKD, donated the land for the unit – a poignant reminder of the human spirit’s capacity for generosity.
The Fragrance of Selflessness
This story brings to mind the powerful anecdote of the woman who anointed Jesus’ head with expensive perfume at the home of Simon the leper (Mark 14:3). While some criticized her for what they saw as a wasteful act, Jesus praised her for her beautiful gesture, calling it a “good thing” that would be remembered forever (Mark 14:6, 9). This episode serves as a poignant reminder that our actions, no matter how small they may seem, can have a profound impact on others.
A Legacy of Love
Throughout history, we’ve seen countless examples of people doing “beautiful things” for God, touching the lives of those around them in meaningful ways. David’s kindness towards Mephibosheth, Jonathan’s crippled son, is a testament to the power of selfless love (2 Samuel 9:7). Similarly, Barnabas’ friendship with Saul, which helped him gain acceptance among the disciples, is a shining example of a beautiful act that had far-reaching consequences (Acts 9:27).
Our Turn to Shine
As we reflect on these inspiring stories, we’re reminded that we too have the opportunity to do “beautiful things” for God, spreading love and hope to those who need it most. As the saying goes, “Duty makes us do things well; Love makes us do them beautifully.” May we be inspired to follow in the footsteps of these unsung heroes, using our lives to glorify God and bring joy to those around us.
Prayer
Lord, help me to spread your beauty wherever I go by doing beautiful things to glorify You.
