Overcoming Unbelief: Breaking Down Barriers to Faith

Breaking Down Barriers to Faith

A Roadblock to Reconciliation

For years, I struggled with a broken relationship within my family. Despite my deep desire for reconciliation, it seemed like an insurmountable hurdle. Just when I was about to lose hope, someone came along and infused me with encouragement, assuring me that restoration was possible.

The Power of Unbelief

This experience reminded me of the story of Lazarus, where Jesus told Martha to remove the stone covering his tomb. Martha hesitated, citing the stench of Lazarus’ four-day-old corpse. Jesus’ response was poignant: “Did I not say to you that if you would believe, you would see the glory of God?” (John 11:40). Unbelief can be a significant obstacle in our lives, much like the stone blocking the entrance to Lazarus’ tomb. It can prevent us from experiencing God’s fullness and lead us to make excuses, just like Martha did.

Removing the Barriers

The stone not only kept the mourners from reaching Lazarus but also kept Lazarus trapped in death. Similarly, our unbelief can keep us from experiencing the freedom and life that Jesus offers. Sometimes, we need to help others remove the barriers that hold them back, and at other times, we need to allow others to help us overcome our own obstacles. By doing so, we can break down the walls that separate us from God’s glory.

A Prayer for Faith

Jesus, I come to you, acknowledging my struggles with unbelief in ___ (specific area of struggle). I desire to experience all that you have to offer me, free from any obstacles. Forgive me for my unbelief and grant me the strength to know you more deeply. Amen.
