Leading by Example
A recent family road trip taught me a valuable lesson about the importance of integrity. As we stopped for a quick bite, my youngest daughter accompanied me to the counter to place our order. When the cashier handed me too much change, I pointed out the mistake and returned the excess amount. My daughter beamed with pride as we walked away, revealing that she had been watching to see how I would handle the situation.
Actions Speak Louder Than Words
This experience reminded me of the old adage, “actions speak louder than words.” Jesus, too, was often criticized by His opponents, but His actions consistently demonstrated His character. One remarkable example is the story of the blind beggar, who, when questioned by the Pharisees about Jesus’ identity, boldly declared, “I was blind, but now I see!” (John 9:24-25).
The Power of Consistency
Jesus taught His followers to be cautious of leaders who preach one thing but practice another. “The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. So you must be careful to do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach” (Matthew 23:2-3). This wisdom still resonates today. As followers of God, we must ensure that our words and actions align with His teachings.
A Lesson for Us Today
We never know who is watching us, waiting to see if we will do the right thing. As believers, it is our duty to speak the truth and back it up with actions that reflect God’s character. This requires intentional effort and a willingness to examine our own lives.
A Prayer for Integrity
Dear Heavenly Father, I desire to honor You in every aspect of my life. Show me the areas where my words and actions do not match. Thank You for Your Spirit’s presence, which gives me the strength to live consistently with Your Word. Amen.
