Dependent on God: The Secret to True Strength and Freedom

Embracing Dependency on God

In a world that often equates independence with strength and maturity, Jesus’ words to the crowd at the temple offer a refreshing counterpoint. “The miracles that I do in my Father’s name speak for me,” He says (John 10:25). This statement highlights the profound truth that our lives are not our own, but rather a reflection of the power and wisdom of God.

The Misconception of Self-Sufficiency

We often view dependency as a weakness, a sign of immaturity. But the Bible teaches us that dependency on God is not only natural but also necessary. Jesus Himself modeled this complete reliance on His Father, regularly withdrawing to lonely places to pray and seek guidance. He recognized that His power, words, and actions were not His own, but rather an extension of God’s will (John 12:49).

Designed for Dependency

God desires our dependency on Him, not because He wants to control us, but because we were created to thrive in relationship with Him. We are wired to be connected to our Creator, and when we live in this dependency, we function at our best. Imagine being a branch on a tree, nourished moment by moment by the sap that flows through it. This is what it means to rely on God’s inexhaustible resources.

The Freedom of Dependency

When we practice moment-by-moment dependency on God, we experience a sense of freedom and relaxation. We are no longer burdened by the pressure to perform or achieve on our own strength. Instead, we can tap into God’s wisdom, patience, love, and energy, confident that His supply will never run out. This is the secret to living with poise and confidence.

A Life of Abundant Resources

As we acknowledge our dependency on God, we can say with gratitude, “Thank you, Father, that I’m a branch in the Vine, Christ Jesus, and His resources never run out. I count on His strength and joy today.” May we embrace this truth and live in the freedom and abundance that comes from relying on God.
