Unlikely Heroes: God’s Unconventional Choices
Have you ever felt like you don’t quite fit in? Like you’re an outcast, a misfit, or just plain misunderstood? You’re not alone. Some of the most unlikely individuals have been used by God to achieve extraordinary things.
From Brothels to Kingdoms
Take Rahab, for instance. She ran a brothel, yet God used her to shelter Israelite spies and pave the way for their conquest of Jericho. Or consider Moses, who fled from justice, but was later commissioned by God to lead His people out of slavery. Then there’s Jonah, who tried to outrun God, but ended up being used to bring salvation to the people of Nineveh.
A Heart Set on God
What sets these individuals apart? It’s not their background, their social status, or their moral record. It’s their heart. God sees beyond the external trappings and examines the heart. He looks for those who are committed to seeking Him, to staying after His heart. David, the young shepherd boy, is a prime example. While others saw a gangly teenager with a strong smell of sheep, God saw a heart that beat for Him. And it was that heart that earned David the title of “a man after God’s own heart.”
God’s Unconventional Standards
Unlike the world, which measures success by physical appearance, wealth, or social standing, God’s standards are radically different. He doesn’t care about our waist size or wallet. What He cares about is our heart. Are we set on Him? Do we seek Him above all else?
A Call to the Unlikely
If you’re feeling like an unlikely hero, take heart. God has a way of using the most unexpected individuals to achieve His purposes. He’s not looking for perfection; He’s looking for a heart that’s willing to surrender to Him. So, don’t be discouraged by your past mistakes or your current circumstances. Instead, focus on cultivating a heart that beats for God. You never know when He might call you to do something extraordinary.
