Rediscovering the Joy of Intimate Connection with God
As I reflect on my journey with God, I’m reminded of the deep longing in my heart to experience a vibrant, living relationship with Him. It’s not just about feeling comfortable with God, but about cultivating a “first love” connection that pulsates with His power, presence, and peace in every moment. Despite years of following Jesus, I’ve come to realize that a stagnant faith is incompatible with deep intimacy with God.
The Desire for Unity
In John 17, Jesus’ prayer for believers reveals a profound truth: God desires an intimate, unified relationship with each of us. Jesus yearns for us to experience the same depth of connection He shares with the Father. This unity is not just a lofty ideal, but a tangible reality that can be experienced daily. As Jesus prayed, “You are in me… I am in you… they also be in us… that they may be brought to complete unity.”
Beyond Familiarity
However, it’s essential to distinguish between intimacy and familiarity. Spiritual discontent often stems from settling for a superficial connection with God. To reclaim a “first love” relationship with Jesus, we must prioritize our relationship with Him above all else. As we do, we’ll begin to experience an unshakeable, authentic intimacy with God, one day at a time, one breath at a time.
A Prayer for Pursuing Intimacy
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for your relentless pursuit of my heart. You created and redeemed me for a relational intimacy that transcends the ordinary. Help me to prioritize my relationship with you above all else, so I may experience the depth of your love and presence every day of my life. Amen.
Breaking Free from Spiritual Discontent
If you’re struggling with a stagnant faith or feeling disconnected from God, remember that His desire is for you to experience deep intimacy with Him. Don’t let life’s distractions or difficulties hijack your relationship with God. Instead, refocus on cultivating a “first love” connection with Jesus, and watch your faith come alive with a newfound sense of purpose and passion.
