Spirit-Led Living: Breaking Free from Fleshly Desires
As I reflected on my recent struggles, I couldn’t help but identify with the apostle Paul’s sentiments. Despite my best intentions, I found myself trapped in a cycle of doing what I hated. Have you ever felt that way?
The Problem of Misaligned Priorities
The Lord revealed to me that our lives should not be driven by the desires of our flesh. Instead, as born-again believers, we should be guided by the promptings of the Holy Spirit. However, this requires intentional effort to feed our spirit man through prayer, fasting, and meditation on the Word. When we neglect these spiritual practices, we become insensitive to the Spirit’s whispers.
The Consequences of Neglect
The reality is that the part of us we feed the most will grow strongest. Take an honest assessment of your daily routine: how much time do you dedicate to reading the Bible and praying? If you desire to walk in the spirit and resist the desires of the flesh, increasing your time in these spiritual practices is crucial.
The Power of Spiritual Disciplines
The Word has the power to cleanse and transform our hearts. Prayer provides direction, helps us avoid the enemy’s traps, and enables us to surrender our will to God’s. By prioritizing these disciplines, we can overcome our struggles and live a life pleasing to God.
A Prayer for Spiritual Awakening
My prayer for you today is that your understanding will be enlightened as you study scriptures. May God’s grace empower you to overcome your struggles. May you be led by the Spirit as you pursue a deeper relationship with the Father.
A Call to Examination
Father, we often take for granted the tools you’ve given us to live a holy life. Help us to examine our ways, motives, thoughts, and desires. May we bring these before you, seeking clarity and guidance. Often, our desires differ from yours; may your Holy Spirit draw us to truth and guide us to follow you wholeheartedly.
Taking the First Step
What changes can you make today to prioritize time for the Word of God and prayer? Begin to intentionally quiet your heart and listen for the Holy Spirit’s direction in your daily life.
