The Path to Spiritual Clarity
As followers of Christ, we are called to live a life that honors God and brings us joy and peace. But in a world filled with conflicting information and opinions, how can we be sure we’re making the right choices? The answer lies in spiritual discernment – the ability to judge situations and determine what is God’s best for us.
A Gift from God
According to Philippians 1:8-11, our heavenly Father desires for us to grow in our knowledge of Him, so we can approve the things that are excellent and live a sincere and blameless life until the day of Christ. He provides us with the gift of discernment, enabling us to distinguish between what is true and what is false.
Avoiding Deception
Many opportunities and situations may seem appealing, but they may not be part of God’s plan for us. Similarly, a lot of information may appear true but is actually false. We must be cautious and evaluate everything we hear, read, or see against the only reliable measure for spiritual discernment: God’s Word.
Evaluating Counsel
We are constantly bombarded with advice and opinions from influential people, the media, and even the pulpit. But we must learn to discern what is of God and what is not. We cannot blindly accept everything we hear; instead, we must test it against the truth of God’s Word.
Seeking Guidance
Jesus promises to reveal the path to anyone who asks. But we must be willing to seek His guidance and wisdom. As we pray for spiritual discernment, we can trust that God will provide us with the wisdom and understanding we need to make godly decisions.
Living a Life of Purpose
When we walk in spiritual discernment, we can live a life that brings glory to God and joy and peace to ourselves. We can avoid avenues that seem right but are not part of God’s plan. Instead, we can confidently choose the path that aligns with His will, knowing that we are living a life of purpose and significance.
