Finding Courage in Uncertainty: Lessons from Caleb’s Daring Faith

Finding Courage in Uncertain Times

When faced with challenges that seem insurmountable, we have a choice: focus on the problem or focus on the Lord Jesus, who has promised to be with us and give us victory. The direction of our focus will have far-reaching consequences.

The Story of Caleb: A Model of Daring Faith

The story of Caleb, one of the twelve scouts sent to explore the Promised Land, serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of focus. While ten of the scouts returned with a negative report, highlighting the strength of the people and the giants that inhabited the land, Caleb brought a different perspective. “Don’t be afraid of the people of the land,” he encouraged. “They are only helpless prey to us. They have no protection, but the LORD is with us. Don’t be afraid of them… Let us go up at once to occupy the land, for we are well able to overcome it.”

The Source of Caleb’s Confidence

Caleb’s boldness was rooted in his understanding of God, not in his own abilities. He never lost sight of the fact that “the LORD is with us.” Even during the forty years of wandering in the wilderness, Caleb’s faith remained unwavering. When he finally entered the Promised Land, he requested the rough terrain where the giants lived, confident that “the LORD helping me, I will drive them out just as he said.”

A Lesson for Us Today

We all face struggles of discouragement, loneliness, and fear. But what will we focus on? Will we allow difficulties to consume us, or will we choose to focus on the Lord, who is always with us? Because of God’s faithful and good character, it’s safe to take the risk of daring faith.

Moving Forward in God’s Strength

When others see obstacles, we can see opportunities. When the majority caves in to discouragement, our faith can give us the courage to move ahead. As we navigate life’s challenges, let us remember Caleb’s example and choose to focus on the Lord. Dear God, help us to trust you and move ahead in your strength.
