Prioritizing the Eternal
In a world that values busyness and productivity, it’s easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of activity. We often find ourselves like Martha, diligently working to prepare a meal for Jesus, while neglecting the opportunity to sit at His feet and listen to His words.
The Temporary vs. the Eternal
Everything we see in this world is fleeting. Our accomplishments, our possessions, and even our relationships will one day come to an end. As Jesus reminds us, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away” (Matthew 24:35). It’s essential to focus on what truly matters – the eternal.
The Good Portion
Mary, on the other hand, chose the good portion. She prioritized her relationship with Jesus, recognizing that time spent with Him was far more valuable than any earthly pursuit. We would do well to follow her example, making time to read, study, and meditate on God’s word.
A Simple yet Powerful Choice
In the midst of our chaotic lives, it’s easy to lose sight of what’s truly important. However, by committing to a daily quiet time with God, we can strengthen our relationship with Him and make it our top priority. As we do, we’ll find that our priorities begin to shift, and we’ll be able to discern what is truly good.
A Prayer for Focus
Heavenly Father, help me daily to remember to step back from the distractions of this life. I want to spend time listening at your feet, like Mary, so I can make my relationship with you my top priority. In the name of Jesus, amen.
