Finding Strength in Uncertain Times
Life can be overwhelming, leaving us feeling battered and bruised. It’s as if the world is against us, and we’re left wondering if anyone cares. I’ve been there, too. In a short span, my marriage crumbled, my children moved away, I lost my nursing job, and my health began to decline. It was a dark time, and I felt like I was drowning in a sea of uncertainty.
A Turning Point
That’s when I met with a counselor who listened attentively to my tears and fears. He asked me a question that caught me off guard: “Helen, does God still love you?” My initial response was, “Of course, the Bible says God’s love is everlasting.” But then he reminded me that Jesus is the true measure of God’s love, not our circumstances. In that moment, I realized that I was loved, no matter what life threw my way.
Standing on the Rock of Faith
When our securities crumble, we’re left with two options: give up or stand firm on the rock of faith. As believers, we’re not called to be escapists; we’re called to be overcomers. Jesus promised us that we would face trouble in this world, but He also assured us that He has overcome the world (John 16:33).
Daily Bread
So, how did I find the strength to carry on? I turned to God’s Word, copying out verses that spoke of His love and repeating them to myself daily. Verses like Zephaniah 3:17 and Isaiah 43:1-7 became my lifeline, reminding me that God is always with me, even in the darkest of times. These words lifted my spirit and gave me hope, and I continue to cling to them to this day.
A Prayer for the Morning
Dear God, let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul (Psalm 143:8). May these words be my daily bread, sustaining me through the trials and tribulations of life.
