The Power of Inspired Speech

Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you wanted to share your faith, but didn’t know what words to use? Or perhaps you’ve been called upon to offer guidance or encouragement to someone in need, but felt uncertain about what to say?

As followers of Christ, we have the promise that the Holy Spirit will guide us in such moments. In Mark 13:11, Jesus assures us, “When you are arrested and stand trial, don’t worry about what to say in your defense. Just say what God tells you to. Then you will not be speaking, but the Holy Spirit will.”

A Personal Experience

I can attest to the truth of this promise. Many times, I’ve been in situations where I’ve had to rely on the Holy Spirit to give me the right words to say. Whether it’s been sharing my faith with a crowd or offering a word of encouragement to a neighbor, I’ve seen firsthand how the Lord can put the very words in my mouth that need to be said.

The Conditions for Inspired Speech

Of course, there are certain conditions that must be met before the Holy Spirit can speak through us. We must come with a clean heart, surrendered to the Holy Spirit, with our sins forgiven and having forgiven others. As Psalm 66:18 reminds us, “If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me.”

Trusting God for Guidance

Let us trust God and His indwelling Holy Spirit to give us the words of counsel we need to share with others today. Whether it’s a loved one, a friend, or a stranger, we can be confident that the Lord will guide us in what to say.

A Daily Commitment

As we go about our day, let us commit to trusting God and His Holy Spirit to put the very words in our mouth that need to be said. May we be faithful ambassadors of Christ, sharing His love and guidance with all those whose lives we touch.
